Air Asia Flight Change Problems

Most airlines, Air Asia included, have terms and conditions that apply to changing your flight. This can range from not being able to change your flight because of the nature of the booking, to changing the booking but being charged a service fee and making up the difference in the cost of the fare.

Air Asia allow you to change your flights for most of your bookings, but do charge a service fee which varies depending on the service that you are using. For example, if you fly from Malaysia to Indonesia, the change fee will be different if you are flying from Australia to Malaysia.

In addition, the fee will be different if you change your fare online to making contact with the call centre.

How have you found changing fares with Air Asia? Is it a simple process? Are their fees and charges too much? Any other issues?

    1. AIRASIA, MONEY SUCKER. When want to change flight scheudle do not allow cause negative balance. but in actiul fact, i had double payment and additional money sitting in my account. Many way contact them, online chat, e-form submitted (every e-form need 5 days to response), even go to the sales agent at airport. guided by many so call "Support" but after one week, i am still have negative balance, CANNOT CHANGE THE FLIGHT date. AIRASIA, if this the CHEAPER air-liner, I would to rename it to CHEATER airline in the world. HOPELESS HELPDESK AND HOPELESS 600859999 (rm 1.95). CUT OFF customer when cannot give solution. Only know standard question and answer like ROBOT.

  2. Had the same problem. Airasia site works but wont when you get to the change flight page. Almost as if its designed that way to make you pay more.

    1. I simply agree as I have now been online and on the landline telephone for the past 3hrs and still no joy. want to change my booking am going to a cheaper flight which whould only cost min $100 they are telling me it will cost $188 how come? the flight I am changing to is soo much cheaper than the original flight. If i do it online it is forcing me to take flight insurance and charging nearly $400 more go figure. I agree with others not airasia cheap fares but should rename to airasia cheater fares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I double booked flights because I didn't receive an emailed confirmation of the initial booking, it was not charged onto my credit card after 7 days of placing the booking and when I tried to check the itinerary (I had written the number down) I was given an error msg that I didn't have a booking. I cannot get them to refund the 2nd fare. Good luck in being able to get any understanding or empathy from this company! No customer service whatsoever however I meant to get on that plane confident in their duty or care for passengers??? Scary!

  5. our flight was delayed so i spoke to someone on online chat if i could change it. they said i could at no charge but i would have to call to change it. When i finally got through the person who i could hardly understand said NO i couldnt as its only been delayed 40 mins and it needs to be 45 mins before i could change it. It says NO WHERE in there terms and conditions about 45 mins. Worst customer service and airline so far!!!!!

  9. Just tried to change my flight date due to some unforseen reason. But in the end found out that the change fee is RM90 per trip. Hell! that's even more expensive than my per trip ticket. I decided to throw away the ticket instead of changing the flight date.
I seriously think I should switch to other airline, eg. MAS for better service. Airasia has turned to blood sucking airline with their policies of charging "convenient fee" for credit card payment and now the change fee!

  10. Hi there you are right there is a problem with the online booking... i just had it an hour ago. I very carefully booked my flight timings and all and when i had done with it and was about to write down my confirmation number and flite details, i was horified to find that my flite time of 12.25 had changed to 22.40..... i dont know how the hell that could have happened. Then i tried changing them and found out that i have to pay 282 Malaysian ringetts which is equivallent to a flite ticket from kaula lampur to langkawi (which is where i am headed) its like buying another ticket.... and that too for no fault on my part. But now that you all have experienced and say that it wont help to ask them for a refund , then i might as well pay the extra or i waste my whole day plus i still have to pay the same amount or more for the hotel bookings anyway..... guess its a bad day for me....all worn out from all the holiday planning. But i do have a query.... i have paid the extra insurance they ask you if you want or not and is it possible that i still do get a refund?????? Also we in India dont have a AIRASIA office ....which means we actually ought not to have any expectations from them.....

  13. Air Asia's website is so unhelpful. It won't let me change my flights without changing the flights of the other 2 passengers on our itinerary!! I have tried ringing their Australian customer service number about 5 times over the past 2 weeks and NO ONE ever picks up the phone!! 1300 760 330 is supposed to be a 24 hour customer service line. I don't believe ANYONE mans this phone line. On Sat July 3rd I was on hold from 11:30pm to 1:15pm, before I finally gave up! Today is my last chance to change the flights before the 48 hours your airline requires. I was again on hold for 30 minutes during my lunch break. I am currently on hold from 7:40pm to 9:10pm and still there is no one answering my call!!! I have tried ringing their Malaysian phone numbers 603 2171 9333 and 603 2614 9090, which was not helpful at all!! I was either listening to a pre-recorded message which told me to change my booking on your website or the one time I talked to someone (who had trouble understanding english), he said he'd get someone to call me to change my flights and NO ONE did! So because of their disgraceful non-existent customer service I have been unable to change my flights.

  15. We have already paid the full fare, need to change the depature date to the next day, because of work commitments. I don;t mind paying the extra, but AA does not want to refund the RM1355.00 that I have paid for? What happens to the airport tax, food, seat bookings. On top of that they charge RM1.95 per minute to thier 600 number. They don't pick up immediately, maybe they are instructed to do this! It was to RM60.00 to talk to their staff, and even the staff could not understand why the RM1355 could not be returned. They just keep saying " in our rules" Its DAYLIGHT ROBBERY" to take the money, and then have those seats to sell again. its better to fly with MAS. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE STRESS LIKE THIS. Have written to their support service

  16. Changing flight itinerary will incur another airport tax fee?

Airport tax shall be paid to the government upon the passenger utilizing the airport (i.e. disembarking on a flight). the Tax charged to customers are not yet paid to the Govt until after the day of departure.

As there are no refund, if you did not take the flight, Air Asia pocket's the money as it will only pay the Govt for passengers that have boarded the plane. (i.e pax reconciliation)

Can Air Asia deny/dispute this fact? To the public, silence is a form of admission.

  19. BEST CHEATING AIRLINE IN THE WORLD

To talk to Air asia customer service to settle any problem reg ur booking u need to pay RM 1.95 per min. Definitely they won't pick up the phone for first mins and only automatic voice intruction will be there.
They when they talk to also they'll talk very slowly and will consume minimum RM 20 to 30 for everytime u r calling them.

I think air asia will get millions of Rinngits in this way.

  20. We purchased AA ticket via travel agent 5 months ago, We received email by them and confirmed the reservation using their WebSite - manage booking.. But somehow, AA has changed the status of the reservation from Confirm to Unconfirmed/cancel and require us to make double payment! Without notifying us..AA claimed that it was FRAUD transaction .. Their customer service is very arrogant and almost all staff are very COLD BLOODED... If you got choice, don't ever fly using AirAsia eventhough they are cheap.. If you got problem, they won't entertain and you will lose your money ,Their system is not fully secured .. FRAUDERS can easily tap into their system and make reservation via FAKE CREDIT CARD.. BE CAREFULL

  21. I sympathise with the earlier comment - no confirmation email. Fortunately I had printed off the web page booking reference. I rang last night on the all new premium number at nearly 2RM per minute. Gave up after 10 minutes. Got straight through today and my booking is fine. Phew. But the call cost over RM15.Why does the intro say "if you are flying to blah, balh ...blah, press 1.." This kind of call charging is reported to Oftel in the UK - as blatant profiteering. Do AA not send emails in order to generate calls, I wonder?I only fly AirAsia because they are cheap but after they add on taxes, seat allocation, baggage fee, cc fee for convenience (whose?)It's worth comparing with MAS. better service all round. No way would i touch AA food!In fact, I flew to Cambodia over Hari Raya with MAS and they were cheaper than AA. My husband nad I are flying to Vietnam over Christmas with MAS - we would rather pay the little bit more for a superior service. Cheap and nasty money grabbers.

I was like-okay, fine. then i tried the second time. buzzz again. I waited the early mornings during 3-5 am (6-8 am Australia) to make the booking to avoid the traffic and guess what? BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.. it turned out pretty annoying. juz came to remind me how much i hated going onto airasia flights.

  25. Fare for changing a date or a time? all the companies apply a fare in the tourist (cheap) tickets.
Paying the difference on fare to the flight you change to? same same all companies.
Problems in you online bookings with the amazing interface of Airasia website. Try to buy a ticked with TAP (Portugal) or Alitalia... :)
Even with most of the companies, if you have a flight and you are "not shown" you don't fly. They will aply a fare arround 100-150 USD...

I don't love Airasia. But It's still cheap. Let's see how long keeps on like it is right now :)

    Good life.

  36. Air Asia service is a disgrace. I had an accident prior to flying on booked tickets on 29 March and had paid for 2 x return promo tickets ex Brisbane to KL - $1085. I had to change the flight dates twice due to hospitalisation and medical attention and could not work for four months. Now to book the flighs again for June 2012 I have paid a total of $2300 ($1300 in rebooking fees, meals, luggage, etc over and over again). I have posted 2 x large parcels of medical documents by registered mail to head office of Air Asia in KL which each time cost me $A25. Their call centre is impossible to get through to and I have spent 5 months trying to contact someone in this regard. I tried to change the tickets to names of friends who wish to use the tickets and Air Asia want another fee for changing the names. Still they do not recognise the Insurance claim made for the inability to travel on my part in the first place due to injury. This company is a joke and a disgrace. I had friends who have travelled on 10 hour trips with this airline and were only offered a bottle of water and some instant noodles for a meal and did not see a hostess or a trolley to purchase anything for the length of the trip.

    Now they email me back

I have had much the same experience as many before me with the inability to change tickets via computer for flying guests and the call service but as I have spent over AU15,000 in last 18months with this so called best low cost carrier can only say I am extremely disappointed with the complete service past the purchase of tickets!!!!!

  38. Air Asia frumolcancelled our return flight return in Nov 2011 from Phuket to KL without any communication and even worse no refund given for our connecting return flight from KL to Melbourne due to their mistake and lack of communication, and used the excuse that they were Air Asia X and the connecting flight was with Air Asia which wasn’t the same company. We cancelled our return flight minus the refund and booked with a much better and organised carrier direct from Phuket to Melbourne. They cancelled the flight, not us! Never again

  39. The Air Travel Advisory Bureau provide advice on how you can reclaim your taxes and a form for you to use to complete the process. If the airline won’t play fair, they also provide information on how you can complain. Should you not be satisfied with the airlines response you may want to consider the small claims process for APD Refund. They offer a guide on how the system works.

  43. I see that I am not alone in having problems with changing flights on Air Asia's website.

I logged on with a few hours to spare before the 48 hour cutoff for changing my flight. I was happy to pay the $95 it would cost me for my wife and 2 children.

The website kept coming back with an error "multiple tabs open" and sending me back to the home page every time I tried to change the flight. I logged off, rebooted my computer, still the same problem. Definitely a bug in their website. It seems almost too convenient if you ask me.

Considering that it is impossible to contact them (the contact number on the website here in Australia won't answer any queries not related to "Air Asia X"), and that after more than a week they have not even responded to the emails I lodged through their "contact us" page, you would think that they would make an effort to at least test their website to ensure that it works as promised.

Anyway it ended up costing me $500 more than if the website had worked as per their terms and conditions. Considering how often my family and I fly it is going to cost them many times that in revenue, and my wife and I will recommend to everyone we know NOT to use AirAsia on the basis of our experience.

  45. I can only agree with so many of the previous posters: Air Asia is a money-sucking con operation. They will quote you a very low fair, but once you have gone through the process and made the reservation, you will end up paying MUCH more. And don't even try to change your reservation: they will try everything in their power to make it as difficult as possible.

STAY AWAY from this airline if you possibly can.

  51. the worst service! i'd rather pay more with another airline like jetstar much better service. (at the end you pay more with airasia after all the charges)

there was no phone number for me to call, so i used the live chat but i had to wait for 4 hours and was cut off by them, thus another 4 hours and then i couldn't change the ticket.
all he did was to reissue the itinerary and he cut me off, i had to wait till the next day to queue on livechat again.
they said i can send an eform to ask for refund of the airport tax for the unused ticket but then was rejected because i requested before the flight date. and after the flight date i resubmitted but no reply until now, (2 weeks later)

So I keyed in my usual email address into AirAsia Website and I was prompted that my usual email address already existing account in AirAsia and I was prompted to TYPE in a different email address. And after typing a different email address, AirAsia CANNOT find my booking!!! And Air Asia Sing Call Centre said that either I go to the nearest AirAsia office (which is at Changi airport!!!) or I have to call Indonesia or Thailand AirAsia to change me flight????!!! If I am going to make overseas calls to Indoneisia or Thailand, then AirAsia will no longer be a Budget airline !!!! @#$%%$$???&^%%%
